Amateur Radio License Examinations

Exam sessions are held on the first Saturday of each month except June at 1:00 PM at the Hillsboro Fire Department, Ronler Acres Station, 4455 NW 229th Street, Hillsboro, Oregon. The June Exam session will be held at the SEA-PAC Ham Convention in Seaside; see http://www.seapac.org for the test schedule.

All exam elements are administered at each session. You may verify any exam schedule at http://www.arrl.org/find-an-amateur-radio-license-exam-session as any changes will be posted there.

The test fee is $15.00. Bring check or money order payable to ARRL VEC and a photo ID. Applicants upgrading must bring the original AND a photocopy of their current license.

Volunteer Examinations are sponsored by Oregon Tualatin Valley Amateur Radio Club (OTVARC), a special service club of the American Radio Relay League.

Renewing your license using the Universal Licensing System (ULS)

     The easiest way is to do it online. Go to http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls . If you have not already registered with ULS, select "Register CORES/Call Sign" and follow the instructions. Once you are registered, select "Online Filing" and follow the instructions. If you don't have a computer, I'm sure you have a friend who does and can help. Try it!
     To modify a license by mail do not, I repeat, DO NOT attempt to use the FCC Form 605. Obtain a copy of NCVEC Quick-Form 605 from:
http://www.arrl.org/files/file/ncvec605-3.pdf. (Your friend who has a computer can help you with this part.) Fill in section 1 and sign it. Leave section 2 blank.
     If you are an ARRL member, you can make changes free by mailing the form along with a photocopy of your license to:

     If you are not an ARRL member, the Sunnyvale VEC will submit license updates for a fee. Send the form with a photocopy of your license and a check for $5.00, payable to Sunnyvale VEC, to:
