May 3, 2008

We operated as W7OTV for the 7 AREA QSO PARTY on Saturday, May 3, 2008.  Ron O'Connor KD7VIK extended the use of his station for our operation.  This was the first Saturday of our 30th Anniversary month...during which our call sign was on the air each Saturday.

North American

QSO Party

January 19, 2008

The OTVARC Contest Group activated Club call-sign W7OTV for our fourth North American QSO Party on Saturday January 19th.

This 12-hour domestic contest is a good test of experienced, as well as new, operators, equipment and propagation.  Participation includes all North American stations, including US States, US Territories, Canadian Provinces, and Mexico.

At the start of the contest, (10:00 AM) both 20-meters and 15-meters were open and active.  The additional State multipliers early in the day had a big affect on our final score.  During last August's contest, 15-meters provided no contacts at all.  This year 15 was more productive than 20-meters at first but slowly faded away as 20-meters improved.  Mid-afternoon finally showed some activity starting up on 40-meters as the 20-meter band peaked.

By 4:00 PM 20 was on the way out, with 75-meters yet to show any activity until after dinner time.  Both the 40 and 75-meter bands continued to give new contacts until the contest ended at 10:00 PM.

North American

QSO Party

August 18, 2007

The North American QSO Party was another fun time.

Here is a brief summary of our results. Things picked up towards the end with our hourly rate pushing over 20/hour. Results were not too bad considering band conditions. If 15-meters had opened our multipliers would have gone way up. Fewer (by percentage) multipliers kept our score down.  States contacted were spread all over the country, even some DX.

Attending:

Everett W6ABM            Kristen K7KWT,

Mike K7CIE                  Gavin K7AWS

Ron KD7VIK                 Joel AD7IS

Steve AD7OG,               Margie KE7HUR.

Contacts:         136 (84% of previous record)
Multipliers:         54 (70% of previous NAQP)
Score:          7,344 points (59% of previous NAQP)

States:              30 (60% of the 50 States)
Canadian:           2 Provinces
DX:                    New Zealand (Lighthouse Special Event)

We worked:

Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming and West Virginia.

Several of the States on the list are hard to work so a pat on the back for a job well done.

Special thanks to Gavin for supplying and cooking dinner, Thanks Gavin.
